The Auburn Experience-Camp War Eagle Style

When asked why i was attending Auburn by my counselor at camp war eagle, I simply said: Cam Newton of course. I should have known that things would be rough when barely anyone laughed and most took me seriously.  To attend Auburn University, each incoming freshman must participate in a two day, one night camp to become acquainted with the campus, be briefed on Auburn rules and expectations, and make sure you know exactly what you're getting into. These camps are rumored to be a big ball of awkward and for the most part, it's kinda true.
I was a procrastinator and didn't sign up for camp with the other 30 or so trinity students so i was stepping into camp basically blindfolded with no hope of knowing anyone. Great since I love people so much. Upon arriving, I was accosted at my vehicle by several smiling, orange clad, name tag bearing camp  counselors taking my bags, handing me papers, and ushering me to the next level of the parking deck so I could go to orientation and breakfast. Doug and Melin were enrolled into the parent's portion of the camp but they got to return home after the first day to sleep in their own bed...I had to spend the night in a dorm room with a complete stranger and two other complete strangers sharing my bathroom. personal space was nonexistent at camp WE. After eating a spoonful of yogurt and trying to maneuver through the throngs of people in the student center, we finally made it to orientation. I was soon separated from the rents and told to check in. i was in owen where i met my roommates and suit-mates. My roommate knew me from youth leg and she was korean. I'm sorry, i suck at names. One of my suit-mates reminded me of someone off seventeen magazine and was from ohio. The other was Brianna and she was in group 24 with me (you get separated into small groups of about 13 people). She liked rap...catch my drift.
Our group leader was Kensey and he was fratastic. I had the most random group EVER. Lemme break it down: 1 naive, navy brat. 1 genius, 1 guy with pink mohawk and lip ring done himself, 2 guys who looked like twins but didn't know each other, 1 random, confused girl, 1 guy who reminded me of Tpain, 1 super cool dude with a faux-hawk, 2 typical sorority hopefuls (1 i liked a whole lot more), 1 interior designer, and me. categorize me as you wish. Our groups played games, suffered through the severe heat and ants bites, and underwent several alcohol/rape/social issue classes. We also had to all eat together and answer some difficult questions honestly, no problem there. I tried to find one good thing about each person in my group and I succeeded as best I could. I ran into some people I knew along the way and met tons of new people. Taking tours of the campus, despite the incorrigible heat, was a serious lifesaver. I really did learn a lot. Sure, we had lame things like late night activities, skits, pep rallies, and generic conversations but I did have some fun. I met some really awesome people, learned how to make a schedule and more about my major, rode around in a pimped out van with some counselors, reason? my friend hurt her ankle and i got to be transported with her. ballin. Toomer's was yummy and i was so happy when i got to go to sleep that night and learned my roommate didn't really speak unless she was calling her mom and spoke in korean. The water pressure was amazing but i don't wanna have to share a bathroom. Ok, this is such a long post but that was my trip! I move to Auburn in 26 days and i'm really excited. I'm still not 100% sure I made the correct decision of going to Auburn but we'll see.
So, I survived camp war eagle. Me, the girl who hates being around annoying people. Sure, I got to make fun of plenty of new subjects but i'm just glad i got to see my new home and glimpse my upcoming freedom.

Auburn Bound But My Mind's Not So Sound

I leave my lovely home of wetumpka for Auburn in 29 days. I know the days for sure because i have a countdown on the desktop of my mac. yes, i finally got my macbook pro and lemme tell ya, it's pretty much ballin. I can barely put this thing down because the possibilities of entertainment are endless. I named him cheese. You may scoff at my choice but it makes me laugh. You know, like mac n' cheese? you laughed, giggled, or guffawed...admit it. I even foraged the internet to find the perfect green case for him, like a little home for my baby.  Going off to college is actually a lot of work. Crazy I know since you think actually being in college would be the tough part. You really don't realize how much stuff you have to buy to get ready for the big move. After all, you are picking up and moving to a totally different, if not miniature version, of your home. There is so much ish you have to get for this room. The amount really adds up after a while. Just ask my mom, Melin gets easily upset with the rising tally. I keep telling her, it's not about the money, money, money, but she just doesn't appreciate my ode to Price-tag. $orry mom. I don't blame her though, Auburn is basically wearing a hole in her little dooney wallet. I'm actually forking over quite a hefty amount of my graduation money. I'm now a preferred customer of Urban Outfitters theses days and receive cheerful emails from them asking me to $pend more....and I do. I can't help it, all their stuff is just so cute. Same goes for amazon....can't stop.
Speaking of Amazon and dorm decor, I recently deliberated fiercely on what movie poster to adorn the wall of my room. I chose my favorite movie: Pulp Fiction. I'm putting up a picture of what it looks like right here. I'm super duper excited! My mom thinks it sends a bad message but i don't cur. I say it sends the message that I have amazing taste in movies. Anyway, Haley and I have been trying to coordinate room colors and furniture and spacing and oh man it gets overwhelming. That and trying not to hyperventilate whenever rush is mentioned is so time consuming and tiring. So worth it though. The fact that I get to go live in Auburn keeps me going. Sure, I'm going to miss some people and aspects of my life here but Montgomery life has worn out it's welcome and i'm on the edge of my sanity, seriously my hold on reality is slipping everyday I venture into montgomery. One thing i'll miss...sushi cafe....yum yum! Anyway, camp war eagle is on monday and tuesday and i'm pretty sure it'll be an adventure. I'll blog and keep my experience posted on here. It sure to be warrrrrrrrtastic! haha i wish...
War... Eagle, fly down the field.
Ever to conquer, never to yield.
War... Eagle, fearless and true.
Fight on, you orange and blue.
Go! Go! Go!
On to vict'ry, strike up the band.
Give 'em hell, give 'em hell;
Stand up and yell, Hey! War...Eagle win for Auburn,
Power of Dixie Land!

The wonderful world of Fungomery

If it was possible to die of boredom, i would be stone cold dead in my grave. I'm not being ominous, i'm just expressing my severe gut wrenching boredom that has settled around this town like a haze. I now know why the caged bird sings...it was bored. There's nothing to do and i'm going insane. I'm not the only person who feels like this, i know for sure. i've checked to make sure i don't look like a complete loser with nothing to do. I've frequented street cafe and sushi cafe so many times over the past few weeks that the waiters know my name as well as my friends. The rave doesn't card me anymore, and i'm welcomed as another family member in most houses. It's so effing hot too. I can only lay out for like 2 hours without feeling like a raisin, parched and drained by the sun. i prefer my own pool or a friend's to wynlakes. i mean, i'm sorry i don't see the appeal of a public pool where the people actually shower and fix their hair before making an entrance or where many unknown and maybe unkempt bodies float around. no offense to those who go, i just try to weasle my way out of attending when asked.
I guess since I get to go to Auburn in like a month, i have to be punished in some way. Good fortune decided my punishment would be a summer of servitude in dazzling montgomery, al. I don't know why it bothers me so bad this summer, but this town just makes me wanna gag. At least the time is slipping away at a rapid pace. Its almost july which means my last full month living here, camp war eagle, and the last chance to get stuff for my dorm room. That's a whole other can of worms all together. I'm trying to be the best big sister i can be for carrington right now since i'm leaving her all alone with melin and doug. Poor thing. I take her to a weekly chappys breakfast and shopping trip and we actually converse in actual, meaningful conversations. I'm still trying to sell her on bon iver, kings of leon, and mumford and sons but she like passion pit, so there's progress in the musical enrichment department. She even lets me have the pleasure of chauffering her around or picking a movie to watch during a lazy afternoon. it's truly a miracle people.
People piss me off. I thought summer would chill me out or at least help me build up a tolerance to mankind but no cigar. It's gotten worse. I seriously wonder if anyone is honest anymore or if people have any semblance of a brain. i could name a few right now but i wouldn't dare want to embarass anyone with that childishness, even if they behave so. Not everyone is bad but...most are. i never realized how full of deliverance look a likes montgomery was home too. it's amazing. sometimes, you just have to let go and realize that most people just plain suck. easier said than done. So, somebody save me from the mediocrity and monotony of montgomery pleasee. i'm beggin ya, or i'm gonna have to find something to entertain me. that might not be good for some people...
and at once i knew, i was not magnificent
strayed above the highway aisle
jagged vacance thick with ice
i could see for miles, miles, miles
bon iver

What's up, pudding cup?

Apparently all those rumors that having your wisdom teeth out could be one of the most painful experiences of your life are completely FALSE. I mean yeah, i was a teense nervous a few minutes before going under but that's just because of the rumored pain which i still haven't experienced. the loratab isn't even necessary, more like a concilatory prize. anybody who says it's horrific pain is a baby, i mean i barely had a jaw ache. I was however high as a kite afterward and laughed uncontrollably. Between singing ET, Blow, and thinking i was lady gaga, i also cat called some racial slurs, made fun of some people, forraged for food, tried to climb out a window, and made animal noises. The video speaks for itself and my family watcheds it like it got a freaking oscar nod. One good thing about this is that I get to watch greek an insane amount of time without getting judged, i mean what else am i gonna do. But seriously, i know it raises my expectations to unreasonable highs but it gets me stoked for auburn. I looooove me some cappie. my bro camille and i share the same obsession as does haley. Rusty cracks me up to, i live for his awkward moments. too obsessed? nevaaa.  I do have some pretty awesome friends though, ive had visitors everyday who bring me ice cream and nancy's and magazines. This makes the isolation bearable but now i'm starting to get a bad case of cabin fever...
I have no idea who this chick is but I'm severley upset that i didn't swell up like a chipmunk and look as sexy as her. I was looking forward to the fabled swelling. no dry sockets though, thats a good thing. that stuff is nasssttayy. i hated having to eat pudding and mashed potatoes for every meal though. i felt like a grandma who lost her teeth, or a baby. i really want a greasy hamburger and a carbonated beverage. i have moved on to sodas but i the farthest ive come to food of substance is a poptart and i thought thtat was the most amazing thing since james franco's performance in 127 hours. beautiful. So i'm extremely bored and gonna wrap this thing up.
Rusty: are you growing up?
Cappie: You shut your damn mouth!

The Show Goes On Alllll Night...now stop.

Tomorrow is a week since graduation. That's so weird! A week since I was rehearsing for that night, driving with bethea to our graduation song, the show goes on and then that night when it all came to fruition. Strangely, i don't feel different. I mean, I didn't really expect to walk out of Frazer and suddenly feel like the chains of Trinity were cast off forever and I was completely done. I don't think it'll hit me til Trinity starts back in August and I'm not there to drive Carrington to school, get my new schedule, locker, and paste on a smile while the "oh em gee girl! it's been forever! you look so good..." blah blah blah reverberates off the asylum colored cinderblock walls of my alma mater. That's right, i'm a trinity alum. I can actually walk into the tent at homecoming without ducking under the ropes in the back. God, I was a bad ass.
It's only been summer for less than a week and, dont get me wrong, I love summer. I just wish i could fast forward to August 7th, aka: move in day! I've been discussing this subject lately with others and  it seems like we built up graduation to be this big day that slashed the ties with Trinity and with everyone and that the next day, we'd be going to college. Wrong-o. It's like we're stuck in this airport called Montgomery and have a three month lay over. It's kind of a let down. Now we just kind of wait. Guess I was right about the feeling of "What Now?" Sure we have fun but the only bad thing about it is that everyone is gone for periods during the summer and you're basically playing a twisted game of tag trying to see everyone. One thing I'm pretty stoked about is my concert selection for the summer. Yes, I am a little bitter that I didn't go to the Hangout Music festival but I'm already sworn to go next year. I was supposed to go to mumford and sons in atl next month but a ticket costs about a soul a piece so i'm gonna pass. Seriously, i love you mumford and sons but it's like literally hacking off a limb or selling my soul to go to your concert. The other options: Kings of Leon AND Band of Horses in July at Orange Beach (i'll already be at the beach) or Bon Iver in July as well. Decisions Decisions.
So, just some things i've realized in my few days of summer. I've always loved alice but i've been on an alice in wonderland kick for a few days, getting some stuff for my dorm room. Loved that it was our prom shirt AND  theme. A few of my favorite people on earth are out of town til next week and i miss them dearly. I love the capri theatre and saw jane eyre there last night. New local haunt. I eat wayyyy too much in summer, like i can't stop. It's dangerous to fall alseep while laying out because your ipod will stop working for a while due to high temp. No really, the screen flashes a warning sign and says: TEMPERTATURE. ipod must cool before reuse. So crazy. i think my mom is out to get me because the wisdom teeth are coming out next wednesday. Carrington and I bond now due in part to my complete laziness and apathy. Oh and apparently, more people read this than i realized so i shouldn't think about complete strangers judging me off this. not like i care but still. I really want to go to Auburn, like now please, for posterity's, and always, sanity's sake.

Here's looking at you, kid.

3 days. After 13 years, countless moments of doubting my sanity, being forced mindnumbing material down my throat, being with the same people day after day and dealing with their shit, it all ends officially in 3 days. Actually, my trinity career ends tomorrow at 11:30 when I shuffle out of mrs. baker's cal class. I should be studying for that AND AP bio right now but, you know, i'm stupid so i won't. For the past 16 or so days, senior bonding has kicked into overdrive. I've been forced, along with my fellow seniors, to pose for picture after picture, attend Baccalaureate, suffer senior sunday at Frazier, parade in "cap of choice," and gown, recite my major and university to everyone who forgets the minute auburn leaves my lips, attend tea after tea but no tea is served, be expected to still perform at school, AND act like we all still love each other. Well, i'm about stressed to the max and i'm tired of it. Yeah, when i think of it all being over thursday i get a little queasy but it's time. really, truly, it is. I'll miss my bro, camille, and a scarce handfull of others but when our prank was dismantled last week, i knew i couldn't shake off the amount of hatred, dissappointment, and downright apathy i felt toward tps. Look, we know they hate our class but cut us some slack.
Trinity is seriously beating a dead horse here. I got admonished today because aparently senior monday doesn't count during exam week. That's complete bullshit in my opinion. I'm still a senior. Juniors are still juniors, sophomores are still sophomores, and freshman still barely count. Yes, I want to leave but trying to kick me out before I've even finished my exams is really pushing my thin patience. In my opinion, Trinity's just dragging this graduation and senior mentality out til it's not even fun anymore. I mean, over thirty people are going to auburn next year. Yes, there are over 25, 000 students but it's my life so i should run into trinity people all the time. God, i wish cam newton was still there. Stalker fo sho. I hate the fact that my graduation presents have been in visible sight for over a month but i can't have them yet. Thinking about all the stuff i have to get for auburn is so overwhelming that i just wanna give up.
I wrote that two days ago. I graduate tomorrow. I survived my exams and pulled an all nighter. I passed every class even when i thought failure was imminent when baker handed out a bitch of an exam. I seriously almost bludgeoned the woman. Tomorrow. Tomorrow. Tomorrow. I've been waiting my whole life for tomorrow. It's the day i'm finally done with trinity, officially. Yesterday was my last day and I couldn't believe it. Today was my first day of summer and i had so much fun on a date with my girls addie and bethea. Tomorrow is my last day with my trinity family all together and yeah, it's a bittersweet symphony. (i'm listening to it right now, love the verve) The only thing separating me from freedom is a handshake and a cap toss away but ive got the feeling that i'll walk away from all the tearfilled eyes, gut wrenching hugs, and watery smiles to find myself walking to my car thinking: Now what?
I've been looking forward to this day all year, counting down the days since january. I can still remember when it was 99 days left, 45, 22, two weeks, one week, now it's tomorrow and soon it'll be all over. The summer is all that's separating me from total and complete freedom. Why am i scared shitless about it sometimes? Senior year was memorable and filled with complete shit highlighted by some happy moments. It was over too fast and sometimes i think i'm gonna wake up and take my junior year exams. That i just had a shoddy imagination and that senior year is about to start but...i'm done and i'm trying to grasp that. It is finished. I just wrote 10 letters to the people that mean the most to me and it was one of the most emotional experience i have ever had. all i want to do is just get away from all the senior bonding thrust upon us and start my life even if it scares me and makes me wanna gag. So, tomorrow's the day. The last time I get to say i'm a senior at trinity. The last time i can see the people i despise but tolerate because we've been together for years. The last time I see the juniors and think, you're a junior, i'm a senior. The last time i'll have to look at yohn, cleveland, stabler, and the like as my teachers. It's the last time my grade, some people i have been with for thirteen years, will be all together. I literally blinked and everything i've known and taken for granted is gone. It's the last time I can truly say it's great to be a trinity wildcat, so what if i'm lying?

Thursday, May 5, 2011

Well, all I'm saying is that I want to look back and say that I did the best I could while I was stuck in this place. Had as much fun as I could while I was stuck in this place. Played as hard as I could while I was stuck in this place...

Two weeks, just two weeks. I swear, that sentence reverberated off the walls of the senior hallway in TPS today. Everybodys looking haggard and falling asleep in class is the norm. i myself dozed off in free period today with my harry potter book still in hand and still in a sitting position. It could have been the aftermath of my insane doseage of nyquil last night but, nahhhhh. At trinity, things never settle down but hopefully for me, may 19th will be like a pair of scissors, cleanly cutting away my attachment to trinity with one swift snip. I'm seriously cutting away at all the shit i don't need and lemme tell ya, it's liberating. I honestly don't know how i can last these two weeks. i have never had this insatiable urge to get away from somewhere like this before. i loathe walking through the doors of trinity and having to act like i actually can stand being around people that have no idea how freaking annoying they are. don't get me wrong, some people i just love to death but most of em....if looks could kill..
Schoolwork just seems pointless now. I don't understand why i should even be expected to perform at this point, i mean just look at me. I'm on a constant nyquil hangover, it takes hours for the kitten eyes to go down, i don't even try to make eye contact with teachers, i don't keep my sarcastic remarks to a whisper anymore, and i've been downright mean to some people. ya think they'd get the hint. who gives a shit if i have to take almost all my exams? big freaking deal if i fail a few tests. I. AM. GOING. TO. AUBURN. IN. 96. DAYS. get over it. the only thing that keeps me going is auburn. just like louis armstrong, auburn's on my minddd. So, i'm going to go run to compensate for the bread in a can i just dominated then i'm going to come back and netflix, then i'm going to take muh nyquil, maybe review for my math test tomorrow but don't count on it. I mean, we are SENIORSSSSS
in a few weeks, i will get time
to realize its right before my eyes
and i can take it, if its what i want to do
i am leaving, this is starting
to feel like its right before my eyes
i can taste it, my sweet beginning
